Cytodiagnostics on intact pollen using photoluminescence

The photoluminescence of intact pollen of six higher plant genera, excited with UV light, was investigated. Spectra were acquired at room and liquid nitrogen temperatures. There were distinct differences among genera and species of plants, especially at liquid nitrogen temperature. Possible luminescent components located in the pollen outer layer are described.
